How to sew a beanie?

Sewing a beanie by yourself isn’t a mammoth task at all. What you need to have are – a bit of patience and passion for learning. Let’s begin!

Supplied required

With the following apparatus your job is going to be easier and enjoyable significantly:

  • Pattern
  • Rotary cutter or marker and scissors
  • Thread nipper
  • Sewing machine

Are the contents ready? Then, let’s jump to the heart of this write up!

Method

With the priority of your easy comprehension, we have split the entire method into a number of small chunks. Hope, you will enjoy it!

Phase 1: Mark and cut

Place the fabric piece on a flat surface and upon it lay the piece of pattern flat.

With a temporary marker, trace the pattern on the fabric as lightly as possible for you. The lighter you apply the marker, the easier it will be for you to wash it.

As the marking is done, it’s time to cut out the traced part using a pair of sharp scissors. The sharper the scissors are, the more fray less the cut piece will be.

Instead of using the marker and scissors, you can simply use a rotary cutter to get the accurate cut piece faster.

Phase 2: Sew vertically

Match the two vertical ends of the cut piece accurately and use a sewing machine sew all the way.

While sewing don’t forget to back stitch the two vertical ends to secure them.

By this time, you have got a cylindrical shaped thing with two open ends. Each end features 4 petals and those combined create a dome.

Amid the two ends, one will be outside and the other one will be lining. Which one should be what is up to you.

Phase 3: Create dome shape and sew

So, take any end and line up the petals of it in such a way that a dome shape is created. It’s so easy! Could you do that? Can’t line up? Try for a few times, you will definitely see the dome.

As the dome shape is created, join the ends by stitching. One end is done, right?

Go to the other end and do the same with the 4 petals. But, don’t sew the ends all the way, rather leave a 2-inches gap on the top of the dome.

Again, never forget to backstitch!

However, as the sewing is accomplished, snip all the thread ends with a thread nipper.

Phase 4: Turn right-side out and sew

You left a gap in the top of one of the domes. Can you remember?

Trace the gap and turn the entire hat right-side out through this space.

After that, tuck the opening inside. In simple words, push it inside until the inner top of the dome of the other end. And, now you have an almost ready beanie hat in your hand.

Phase 5: Sew the opening

Flip out the inner portion of your hat where you will get the opening.

Through the mouth, pull out the top of the inner dome by an inch and place it in between the two sides of the opening.

Sew the portion well and flip the hat for the last time.

What you have now is a completely prepared beanie hat.
